“Relationships with people are more important than just get paid.”

— AKSANA RYBAKOVA

Tell us a little about your experiences since. Where have you worked? Where do you work now?

After graduation in 2019 I started my graphic design journey with doing freelance with few creative agencies (MullenLowe, Studio Field, Block Branding) . However, my first on-site job was in the app development studio Apps People, as UX/UI designer, just before pandemic in early 2020. Currently I continue my career in UX/UI for iOS and Android’s at Nuheara, local tech company.

How did you get your first graphic design job?

I was lucky to receive few job offers (freelance at Studio Field and Block Branding) at graduation show. It was very good beginning, but I was looking for the full-time jobs to get more experience in design projects from the start to the end. My first on-side job with Apps People I find at Seek.com.

8 months later I received the message on LinkedIn with the offer to apply for UX/UI role at Nuheara. When I was reading the job description I wasn’t sure if I should apply with my little experience in UX/UI. However, my skills that I gained from working at Apps People, also from TAFE projects, ware enough to start as UX/UI designer at tech company.

What advice would you give to Graphic Design students studying at NM TAFE right now?

Value your skills but be open for any early experience. Relationships with people are more important than just get paid.

What is post-pandemic Perth design in need of most?

More design events to bring people together.

What do you think are the most important qualities in a graphic designer?

Understanding the design process and be flexible if this process is not perfect. Think as the client or people for who you making design. Update your skills overtime.
