“Volunteer volunteer volunteer... put yourself out there.”

— ANGELA VITALICH

How did you first get into design? And how and where has that led you today?

It started from a very young age, I was always drawn to arts and craft. I had a lot of encouragement from my high school teachers, when I graduated high school, it was a clear career path in the arts of some sort. It took me a while to get into arts school with many failed attempts, but I persevered and finally got into a Graphic Design course. It's been a 15-year strong career in an amazing, every changing industry working for some of Perth’s top agencies to then venture out on my own.

What project are you most proud of?

There are way too many now, but recently I’ve been working on a few websites, Silver Sponge stands out amongst the lot as one of the fun ones. The brand was playful and modern. I worked closely with the developer, and I was able to implement some quirky features.

Advice for TAFE’s current students?

Fear is what holds a lot of people back... BE FEARLESS!! Take that internship, be that annoying student who askes tones of questions, volunteer volunteer volunteer! Get amongst it! It's amazing at the end of your studies, when you’re looking for your next path in the working world, who might have noticed you… it's not about what you know but about who you know and what your personality brings to the table, but make sure you do know your way around your design tools (whatever these might be), this will help you a lot.

What is Perth design in need of most?

Lose the ego 😃 be a supportive network, collaborate and share. Where all just trying to make money (and beautiful things) at the end of the day.

In terms of finding your first job after graduating, what worked best for you?
