Tell us a little about your experiences since. Where have you worked? Where do you work now?

I used my Advanced Degree in Jewellery and Objects design as a pathway into University. Once leaving NM TAFE I found my self a shared workshop in Fremantle with other working Jewellers and TAFE graduates. I now own and run a small Art studio in Beverley (Wheatbelt WA) we have myself as a working jeweller in store and a permanent fine artist in residence. We both teach one on one classes and I also restore and remake vintage jewellery.

How did you get your first design job or solo exhibition?

I established myself as a artist and have been very privileged that other industries people have seen the skill in my workmanship that asked me to collab. If you work hard and always produce your best results then you will get noticed.

What advice would you give to current Art & Design students studying at NM TAFE right now?

Go to class every day! Time management will help you finish everything! Once you leave the skill level is your most important asset and that is only developed by learning.

What can Perth and Western Australia do to support graduating diverse range of Art & Design students more?

TAFE needs to partner with a wider range of institutions to allow further exposure for students that are seeking to become industry leaders in a safe environment. The strong network between University and the Art Gallery of WA is a great starting platform.

What do you think are the most important qualities in an emerging designer or artist?

Stay true to your design identity, influence and learning in important but always remembered the goal.

Please list some awesome new developments happening right now in the Art & Design industry that you are excited by.

It always comes down to hand skills.
